What is qi?
Often referred to in general terms like energy, or life force, qi is present throughout our bodies and the universe. It is with form (the body), or without form (the air that we breathe). It is the impulse behind our heart beat, our breath, consciousness, and presence. It is expressed as new growth, maturity and decay of all living things. It is seen in the movement of rivers, glaciers, clouds, and the ocean.
Qi and Me
As we begin to understand the concept of qi and how it manifests within our body and soul the more we can direct how we use it. In any given moment we only have so much of it, and what we do with it is up to us. This is the nature of qi – this is the nature of being.
Qi in the body is active in nature. It enables us to move, it is expressive – through our emotions. Qi enables us to digest our food and eliminate waste from the body. Our qi is reflected in our eyes, our way of being in the world and how we interact with the world around us. In that sense, qi is our energy, the energy that we feel and experience on a day-to-day basis and also the energy we radiate to all thing in our lives – loved ones, our animals, in our work place, the momentary interaction with a stranger – eye contact, a simple smile, a thank-you and the anger, or frustration in traffic, or with a difficult co-worker, or any negative interaction we may have – it is all an expression of qi – it is qi.
